Modifying the layout of a website should be a last-resort and there should always be a way to disable any modifications to the layout unless that specific change is the sole purpose of an entire extension.

That said, create a proper settings page or extension popup to manage the ChatGPT and other settings. Don't force the rendering of unnecessary elements on the page.
